According to OSHA, approximately 1,000 Americans die each day from sudden cardiac arrest. The majority of these occur outside a hospital and survival rates in the absence of an Automatic External Defibrilator are very low, (1 to 5 %).
http://www.osha.gov/dts/tib/tib_data/tib20011217.pdf
If an AED is present and is used within the first minute of cardiac arrest, survival rates can jump to as high as 90%. For each minute that passes before an AED is used, the chance of survival drops by about 10%. After 10 minutes, chances of survival are about nill.
www.vfibs.com/statistics.html
This is why we're seeing AEDs being installed all over in places like health clubs, auditoriums, airports, etc.
If approximately 1,000 Americans die each day from cardiac arrest, approximately 3 of those will be JWs. (Per the Watchtower Service Dept, U.S. JWs per capita is about 1:350.) Multiplied by 365, a little over 1,000 American JWs die of cardiac arrest annually. The majority of these events happen at home. However, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that possibly 5% of these happen in Kingdom Halls given how much time JWs spend there. (Every statistic up until now has been based on verifiable sources. The 5% is just my best guess.) If I'm right on the 5%, about 50 American JWs die of sudden cardiac arrest in Kingdom Halls each year.
What is the Watchtower's policy on local congregations purchasing an AED?
Don't do it. If the facility is owned by JWs, they will not allow an AED to be on site, even if it is a gift and trained personnel are available to use it. If the facility is rented and there happens to be an AED present, a qualified JW may volunteer to use it and not violate Branch Policy. This was recently confirmed to me by a Congregation Secretary.
Doesn't that just warm the cockles of your heart?

Elders and former elders: Judicial cases how often?
by A question inhow many judicial cases did you serve on, in how many years as an elder?
feel free to talk about the cases too..

I was an elder for about 10 years. Served on about 10 JCs.
Never volunteered for the "privilege". But never said "No" until the last year after awakening to TTATT.

tater-T: I used to scan through the topics very carefully, checking both the topic and the username. Nowadays I'm just clicking on Active Topics and letting my eyes rip down the page. My eyeballs have now been calibrated for,
ALL CAPS = SPAM
and I just keep on cruising down the page. Occasionally, I'll allow my optical spam filter to turn off and read an ALL CAPS topic, but not very often.
mrjones: I think you've got one of the best-calibrated filters on JWN.
kurtbethel: "the titles make it or break it for me"
Yeah, the days when I would click on a non-descript title like "I've been thinking..." by a username I don't recognize are long gone.
Note to newbies: Until you've established a posting style, a title like "I've been thinking..." won't get nearly as many views as a more descriptive one like "Age 13 & thinking about getting baptized."
Note to idealogues trying to sell the world on whatever your precious viewpoint is: If your thread could have a foot, this is what an ALL CAPS title does to it, imo:

Yesterday I noticed quite a few threads with headlines that generally resembled the following:
THE DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS, LIBERTARIANS, ATHEISTS, FUNDAMENTALISTS, WT GOVERNING BODY ARE GUILTY! THEY WILL HAVE TO PAY!
I made a brief reply on one thread and the gist of my comment was, "Regardless of your world view, when you shout, i.e. use all caps indiscriminately, I stop listening/reading."
I wasn't able to check back in and it looks like the thread got yanked for some reason.
Bottom line: When you scan through thread titles do you even bother to read the title if its all caps?I rarely do. Yesterday was an exception.

Where do you consider the best place to live in the world
by His Excellency infor those of you who have travelled the world over, which country or city will you consider the place to live in the world.

We love the San Francisco, CA Bay Area.
You can surf in the morning, hop in the car for a 3 hour (mid-week) drive and be snow skiing in the afternoon.
Food, music, eclectic mix of cultures, we love it.
If I had to pick a European city, Barcelona would be in my top 5, provided I was living off retirement funds.
One of these days we'll make it down under and visit the Kiwis and Aussies.

GATED COMMUNITIES IN PUERTO RICO: ACCESS CODES and REMOTES must be provided to the WATCHTOWER CORPORATION by APRIL 23, 2013...
by Calebs Airplane inthis case is in it's 9th year an has been touched upon briefly on and off.. the latest from the federal court is that all gated communites in puerto rico have until april 23 to provide the watchtower corporation full access.... this means the entry code or remote control devices that open the front fence.. this is clearly an act of provocation in order to create "pseudo-persecution" thereby increasing fs hours and "voluntary donations"....

BOTR : "I thought they have no right to enter public property."
I think you mean "private", correct?
The phrase I remember hearing all the time was that the pathway, or most direct route, to a resident's front door is an implied invitation unless the JW, poll taker, nosey neighbor, etc. has been told to leave.

People who are driven to accomplish anything of substance usually have a fairly healthy sized ego.
Being able to still have and act on their internal "Humble Pie" voice is critical, IMO.
Simon, thank you for publicly having a slice. It benefits many.
Nathan, I hope you will come back. You may have forgotten this, but one time you sent me some very practical info via PM on self-defense. I still have it.
